Graduation was 4 months ago now, and I’ve had enough of a break since finishing my dissertation that I’m starting to look at jobs and publications. After talking with my advisor, I’m trying to figure out a way to make my dissertation into a more manageable writing sample or possibly publishable as a smaller article. After some cutting and pasting and fussing with formatting (I lost my flash drive with the complete .docx file, so I’m copying from a .pdf file – save your files in more than one place, folks!) I’m down to fewer than 60 pages, and I think there are some repetitive bits and bits referring to parts of the paper that are no longer there that I’ll be able to cut. Goal is 40 pages, so we’ll see how that goes.
I’ll also need to be writing up some things for job applications (how to make all this into workshops?) and I’m looking forward to attending the SMT/AMS conference in Vancouver at the beginning of November. I have one job that I’ve already gotten to the second round for, so keep your fingers crossed for me!
