Here’s the intro to the article I started today. It has a lot further to go than the one I posted yesterday.

Schenkerian Analysis is a highly popular and incredibly powerful analytical tool once understood. However, learning Schenkerian Analysis is complex and challenging. The difficulty of getting past the learning stage may inhibit musicians and students from using and appreciating this tool. In this paper I will examine a particular stage of learning Schenkerian Analysis and strategies to make teaching and learning more approachable. In hopes of accelerating the learning process, first I will offer some anecdotal insights on why the particular topic of harmony may be challenging, and then I will cover how various authors of Schenkerian texts describe harmony. Last I will show how a harmonic Functional Analysis can inform a Schenkerian analysis using Beethoven op 26 as a case study.
